José Gonçalves Dias, ISCTE – Instituto Universitário de Lisboa
Summary
This course, organized by CLAD – Portuguese Association for Classification and Data Analysis, proposes an introduction to models with latent classes, also called finite mixture models. Three main types of models are explored: interdependence models, regression models and longitudinal models. These models are framed in a more general perspective of models with latent variables, framing the complementarity between discrete and continuous latent variables. Modeling will be illustrated with suitable software.
Recipients
All potential users of classification techniques who need to identify homogeneous groups, segments or typologies. In addition to students and teachers, these techniques are particularly popular in the areas of social sciences (e.g. social classes), management (e.g. market segments) and health sciences (e.g. patient typology).
Duration and Scheduling
The course will last 7 hours, from 9:30 to 18:00, with 90 minutes for lunch. The more detailed program is attached.
Condition
The course will run with a minimum and maximum number of 10 and 20 participants, respectively. Applications not accepted will be sent to future editions of the course. Investment and Application Deadline. The course is free for CLAD members with paid 2012 fees, the investment for CLAD non-members is €60. CLAD will issue a certificate of participation. The deadline for registration is February 15, 2011.
