Victor Lobo – NOVA IMS / UNL e Escola Naval

Summary
The course is a joint organization of CLAD (Portuguese Association for Classification and Data Analysis) and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (Civil Engineering Department) and proposes an introduction to Kohonen’s neural networks, also known as Self-Organizing Maps. (Self-Organized Maps) or SOUND. The course will have a theoretical introduction to the different subjects, but it will mainly be a practical tutorial, using Matlab to work on concrete data.

Recipients
All potential users of data mining/machine learning techniques (teachers, researchers, students and professionals from other areas) who need to use Self-Organizing Maps for data analysis, in particular for multidimensional data visualization, clustering, anomaly detection , optimization, and classification.

Duration and Scheduling
The course will last 6 hours and 30 minutes.

Condition
The course will work with a minimum and maximum number of 10 and 20 participants, respectively. Applications not accepted will be sent to future editions of the course. Users who have portable computers with MATLAB’s base software must bring them, and instructions for installing the necessary (free) toolboxes will be sent in advance.

Investment and Application Deadline
The course is free for CLAD members with the 2018 fee paid; the investment for CLAD non-members is €60. CLAD will issue a certificate of participation. The deadline for registration is May 30, 2018.
